No matter how the Trump shutdown might currently impact your life, you can stop worrying because it will soon be over.
It won’t be Donald Trump who lifts even one of his tiny fingers to put an end to the economic uncertainty he created for hundreds of thousands of federal employees, federal contractors, and Coast Guard personnel.
You see, Trump doesn’t care a whit about any of those folks or their families because the shutdown is about one thing and one thing only: Protecting Donald Trump’s pathetically fragile ego.
And, it won’t be Democrats who cave into Trump to end the shutdown because if they do, the next time Trump doesn’t get his way, he will simply shut down the government, inflicting more pain on millions of innocent men, women, and children.
Now we know that Mitch McConnell, the wily old fellow who happens to be the Republican Majority Leader in the United States Senate doesn’t care about the country as much as he cares about his political power. So, we can’t count on him to keep the government functioning even though that happens to be the job taxpayers pay him $194,300.00 per year to do.
So, it would seem that we’re at an impasse and you must be wondering why I said to stop worrying because the shutdown will soon be over.
That’s a fair question and here’s my fair answer.
When the majority of TSA workers who don’t make much more than subsistence wages (starting at $25,518.00 per year) decide that they can no longer afford to commute to and from jobs, they’re forced to do for free, they’ll stop doing those jobs, and that’s when everything will change.
Increasing numbers of call-outs by TSA workers are causing significant airport delays in Atlanta, Houston, and Miami and one wonders, when will TSA call-outs begin to shut down operations in Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, St. Louis, Philadelphia, New York, and D.C.?
When elected representatives in Congress who don’t care about anything or anyone but their positions of privilege, power, and wealth find themselves stuck in airport lines for hours on end as they attempt to fly from home to Washington, D.C. and back home again several times each month, guess what’ll happen?
Those supposedly honorable representatives of the people will turn on McConnell and Trump . . . not because they care about the economic hardships suffered by hundreds of thousands of Americans and their families, but because they will refuse to wait in long lines for long times.
And that is what will motivate them to demand votes in the House and Senate on existing, already-passed legislation to reopen the government.
When?
Well, as little money as those poor TSA folks make, I can’t imagine that it’ll be more than another week or so.
What do you think?
